Scaling and Root Planing (Deep Cleaning)

At Biological Dentistry of Albuquerque, we believe in providing whole-body health care and are pleased to offer scaling and root planing treatments to our patients. Scaling and root planing is a process used to treat periodontal disease and is often the first step in reversing its damage.

Periodontal disease is caused by the buildup of bacteria and plaque around the roots of the teeth, which can lead to gum inflammation, gum recession, and eventual tooth loss. Scaling and root planing is a procedure used to remove bacteria and plaque from around the root surface of the teeth, preventing further damage and allowing the gum tissue to heal.

When scaling and root planing are performed, our dental hygienists or dentists may use a topical or local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. After the anesthetic has taken effect, we use specialized instruments to gently remove plaque and bacteria from around the root structure and within deeper periodontal pockets. This prevents further damage and encourages healing.

After your scaling and root planing treatment is complete, we will schedule you for regular maintenance care. This will involve a thorough professional cleaning, as well as monitoring your oral health to ensure the disease does not recur. With proper care and regular visits, we can help keep your teeth and gums healthy and strong.
